Don't Take Anything for Granted

Don't Take Anything for Granted

Some days writing this blog are easier than others. Today is a tough day. It’s May 26th as I write. You know the headlines, the tragedy, the loss of two days ago. Kinda hard to be inspired to write about custom patches after that.

It’s a fine line to walk, even writing these words. I don’t want it to appear as though I’m exploiting the news for commerce. That’s not at all what this is about.

No, it’s about the small things in life that we take for granted too often.

Take your morning coffee, for example. It’s a small pleasure for many of us. Now imagine this morning was the last time you would ever have it. Would you have savored it more, appreciated the aroma, the flavor, the warmth?

Seems to me we’re always looking for the big things in life. The next promotion, the big raise, the new car. Those things don’t come along every day. But like that cup of coffee, there are little things that come along every single day, things that bring us joy in small ways.

When you walk out your door in the morning, do you notice the sunshine’s warmth? The green of the grass, bushes and trees? The scent of jasmine in the air?

Nearly all of us don’t really notice those things every day. The daily dependability of them makes such things commonplace. We expect them, just as we expect the people we care about to be there. Every day.

Until that one day when they’re not.

If there is one lesson to be learned in life, it is that the future is not guaranteed.

What does this have to do with selling custom patches? Not a lot, frankly. They’re among the small things that we do take for granted. Whether you want to put your name on a uniform, express a political opinion, or just make a joke, they’re an easy way to do so. Or to memorialize someone you care about, as bikers often do.

Consider this nothing more than a reminder to celebrate the small things each day, and remember the things that are truly important.

And hug your kids.
