Great Patch Design is All About Balance

Great Patch Design is All About Balance

“Simplify, then add lightness.”

That was the motto of Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus Cars. You could say he was a minimalist before minimalism was cool.

Chapman’s sports and racing cars, from the 1950s to today, exemplify his philosophy. Rather than simply increasing engine power as other automakers did at the time, he did his utmost to reduce vehicle weight. All Lotus racers and street cars were crafted to be as light as they could be and still function.

Note that last phrase – “and still function.” Chapman occasionally added a little too much lightness, and his cars were sometimes known as much for their fragility as for their performance.

Balance is the key. Design of any kind of machinery is a compromise between ultimate performance and reliability.

Take the machines that produce custom patches, for example. They’re carefully engineered to embroider as fast as possible without jamming, breaking thread or otherwise failing in use.

And balance is also the key to successful patch design. It’s a question of balancing durability, legibility, size, backing, and yes, cost. Those factors can complement each other or they can be in competition.

Take patch size, for example. It’s a given that the larger the patch, the more legible the design will be, especially with lettering. But the bigger the patch, the more it will cost, and the more space it will take up on a garment.

Our experienced artists work with our customers to help find the perfect balance of patch style – woven, embroidered or PVC – size, shape, colors, options and cost. We’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years. We’ve worked with individuals, and with businesses both large and small. And with budgets both large and small.

At Custom-Patches4Less.com, we’ll help you find the perfect balance for your patches. We will work with you to create custom patches that look great, wear well and won’t break your budget. Sew-on, iron-on, or other backing methods are available. Thread and background colors are nearly infinite. Whatever you need in your patches, we can provide it, at the right time and the right price.
