Shhh. Listen. Really, take a moment and truly listen to the sounds around you right now.
What do you hear? As I sit at my desk, I can hear the sounds of my coworkers typing on keyboards. I hear the low hum and soft rush of air of the small fan to my left. I hear our sales teams, talking to customers, a coworker flipping through a notebook.
It’s amazing how much you can hear when you truly listen. No matter where you are, there’s more going on than meets the eye.
Too many people don’t listen these days. Ever go through a drive-through (thru?) lane at a fast food restaurant, pick up your order at the window, and discover after you drive off that something is missing, or your drink is wrong?
Someone wasn’t listening. Maybe they were in a hurry, trying to deal with multiple orders at one time, or just not paying attention. The bottom line is, they weren’t really listening when you were ordering. What part of “Diet Coke” sounds like “root beer”?
