Is Your Logo Obsolete? Update Patch Designs for Maximum Effect

Well, it’s happened again. The Grammy Award nominations were announced today. And regular as clockwork, the naysayers, music snobs and “that’s not music, it’s noise” crowd are out in full force.

They’re railing against contemporary artists, most of whom they haven’t even heard. They’re griping about the subjectiveness of awards (duh!) and the tackiness of award shows.

All that despite the fact that this year’s nominees included Bryan Adams, Elvis Costello and ABBA. Wow. Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for 1980!

Some folks just don’t want to face reality. Times change, tastes change. People change. Every beloved artist of the past, from Beethoven to Bruce, Mahler to Metallica, was a newcomer at one point. They were doing something different than what had been done before.

No matter how much we might want to occasionally, we can’t freeze time. In the case of pop culture, we adapt or become irrelevant. Or in the case of evolution – including business evolution -- we adapt or die.

With that in mind, how are your custom patches looking these days?

Up To Date Resonates With Customers

Has your business logo changed in any way since the company was founded? Are the 1990s calling for their font back? Do your uniform patches reflect your business today, or are they stuck in a time warp?

For that matter, are you even using patches? They can be a successful part of the marketing mix for just about any company, product or service you care to name. If you’re not using them, you’re missing out.

“But my product’s a classic,” I hear you say. “I don’t need to update my logo.” Companies such as IBM, Apple, Kodak, Walmart and many others beg to differ. They’ve all repeatedly updated their logos over the years to keep up with contemporary design trends. If your logo is more than 5-10 years old, it might be time to reconsider it.

A Simple Design Cleanup Can Work Wonders

Or maybe your logo’s fine the way it is. It might just be your patches that need updating. Simplifying text and graphics to make them more legible could be all you need.

If you’re not using patches, now is the perfect time to start. They help your company convey a greater sense of professionalism, and boost visibility of your logo.
